A lively, down-to-earth presenter, Kathy Collins is a popular speaker
at state and national reading conferences. An experienced first grade
teacher, she has also been a Primary Reading Specialist with the
Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University.
She now works in schools across the country as a Professional
Development Consultant.
Kathy is the author of two popular books: Growing Readers: Units of
Study in Primary Classrooms and Reading for Real: Teaching Children
to Read with Power, Intention and Joy. She has also worked with Lucy
Calkins to develop a CD ROM: Resources for Teaching Writing.
Spend a fast-paced day with Kathy and she’ll show you how to
incorporate reading clubs into your literacy program. You’ll see
how this innovative approach builds and sustains reading skills by letting
kids choose books they can read... and want to read. It gives them time
to think and talk about what they’re reading. These reading “jam sessions”
are the key to developing lifelong readers!
KATHY IS TERRIFIC!
